May 26, 2016

SPRINGFIELD — A teenager was arrested Wednesday in connection with shots fired in Springfield's McKnight neighborhood, according to Police Captain Robert Strempek.

The teen fired a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol several times near the intersection of Bay St. and Girard Ave at approximately 4:03 p.m., causing a Shotspotter activation in that vicinity.

Police searched the area for approximately half an hour before locating the teen, who ran towards Oak Grove cemetery after authorities converged on the site.

The teen's weapon was discovered in a patch of bushes near the corner of Berkeley St. and Clifford St., several blocks from where the gun was fired.

No one was hurt in the incident, and the teen didn't appear to have a particular target, according to Strempek.
