Successful Holiday Weekend for Police

July 06, 2016

Peoria police are calling it a successful holiday weekend with no major issues during last night's fireworks.

Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said there were normal calls throughout the weekend, but everything went smoothly especially along the riverfront Monday night.

It was a joint effort for Peoria agencies, but they were also in constant contact with East Peoria officials, too.

"The unified command post had members from Peoria Police, Peoria Fire, AMT, Public Works, ESDA and Coast Guard, so you had a wide range of people," Dotson said.

One challenging part of the holiday weekend: deciphering between fireworks and gun shots. Dotson said ShotSpotter does a decent job of determining the difference for them, but officers always respond to investigate themselves.
