September 02, 2015

SPRINGFIELD — Two people were injured in a shooting in the city's Forest Park neighborhood late Tuesday night.

The victims – a man and a woman – were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, who sealed off the crime scene at Oakland and Dickinson streets.

Multiple patrol units and detectives responded to an 11:58 p.m. ShotSpotter activation for several gunshots near the old fire station at the corner of Oakland and Dickinson. Officers placed small orange cones on the ground to mark where shell casings and blood were found, and they searched the surrounding area for additional evidence.

The injured woman was found at the intersection, and the male victim was found at a nearby property on Johnson Street. Police followed a blood trail to locate him.

Detectives were seen examining a bullet hole in the "Dickinson Street" sign at the intersection. They also checked for gunfire damage to the facade of Felix's Family Ristorante at 214 Dickinson St., but the eatery apparently was spared in the shooting.

Witnesses told police a gray car fled the area immediately after the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 413-787-6355 or text a tip to CRIMES (274637).
