ShotSpotter Activation Leads to One Arrest for Gun Offenses

Worcester, MA (October 29, 2016) - On Sunday, October 9, 2016 at approximately 5:00AM, Worcester Police responded to Veterans Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. Arriving officers discovered evidence to support that shots were fired in that particular area. Several officers responded to the scene. Officers learned that two men were seen leaving the area in a white Toyota Avalon. Officers processed evidence and conducted interviews.
WPD detectives picked up the investigation. During the course of the investigation the registered owner of the Toyota was identified.
On Friday, October 28, 2016, at approximately 9:30 PM. Investigators came in contact with the Toyota operating on Pleasant Street. Detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop. The driver of the vehicle was the only occupant. The driver was identified as Jesus Rivera-Diaz, 32-years-old of 18 Newbury Street, Worcester.
Based on the evidence collected at the crime scene as well as information obtained during the investigation, Mr. Rivera-Diaz was arrested on probable cause. Mr. Rivera-Diaz was charged with Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition without an FID Card, Carrying a Firearm without a License and Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License.
