Roosevelt man charged in Halloween night shooting

FREEPORT - A 20-year-old Roosevelt man has been charged with attempted murder in a Halloween night shooting.

Police have identified the suspect as Rhyan Greene.

According to police, they received a ShotSpotter call on Jefferson Avenue in Roosevelt around 7:45 p.m.Prosecutors say one of the shots fired by Greene struck a man in the torso. The shooting was captured on surveillance video obtained by News 12 Long Island.A short time later, police say Freeport officers received a call for a male who collapsed on Babylon Turnpike and Woodside Avenue.

Police say it was determined that the male was a victim of a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital for treatment. He is listed in serious condition.

Darryl Page says his nephews were hanging out with Greene and others just before 8 p.m. Monday when they were attacked by men who were hanging out at a nearby house. He says the shots were fired during the dispute.

Detective Lt. Rich LeBrun says they are looking into the incident as possibly gang-related.

Greene was held without bail during his arraignment in Hempstead. Police say they are also searching for a second gunman.
