March 15, 2017

RIVIERA BEACH (CBS12) — Riviera Beach Police have named the 17-year-old who was killed in a gun battle over the weekend.

The murdered teen is Dequan Anderson, who was shot and killed along R.J. Henley avenue.

No arrests have been made yet, but police say a ShotSpotter system shows the bullets were fired from a second floor porch of a nearby apartment building.

The technology is credited with helping to solve hundreds of crimes in our area.

Riviera Beach Police Officer Harrison is a shot spotter system operator.

He works inside Police headquarters where he uses cutting edge technology to be the police departments eyes and ears, directing traffic. “We can use manpower on the ground to say okay we need you here we need you here,” said Officer Harrison. He says having eyes in the sky is a huge benefit for law enforcement. “The possibility of being apprehended is a lot greater than it was once before,” said Officer Harrison.
