Police hunt for suspect in June homicide
August 28, 2015
Rocky Mount police have identified the suspect who gunned down a Rocky Mount father in June.
Officials obtained warrants Thursday against Tyrone Foreman, 27, for first-degree murder. The Rocky Mount man has not been apprehended.
Foreman is charged with fatally shooting Raymond Anthony Brown on June 4. Brown’s family said the 26-year-old man had been on his way back from court when he was confronted by the gunman and ran for his life, eventually collapsing in between two houses after being shot on the 600 block of Paul Street.
“They said as he was leaving court, he noticed someone was following him,” said Ashley Hammitt, the victim’s girlfriend of nearly four years and the mother of his 6-month-old son, Chance Raymond Brown “On Clark off Ambler, someone rolled down the window of a car and started shooting at him. He hid behind a tree, but someone got out of the car and chased him and shot him again.
”SClB Police responded earlier in the day to a ShotSpotter activation, but residents did not cooperate with police or indicate a man had been shot. News that Brown’s wounds had been ignored by neighbors fell hard on the ears of his family when the shooting happened, adding that they hoped residents would speak up on the culprits behind taking the life of a man known fondly as “Bud.”
“Do it for the sake of his son,” Hammitt said. “He has to grow up now without a father in his life.”
Rocky Mount police Cpl. Mike Lewis said the case is under further investigation.
“We encourage every citizen to get involved and help in locating this subject wanted for first-degree murder and allow the judicial process to take place,” Lewis said.
The charges in Brown’s death leave three of the other seven homicides in Rocky Mount this year remain unsolved, including the January deaths of Glenn Jenkins on Cascade Avenue and Bruce Wayne Staton Jr. on North Daughtry Street as well as the August 6 death of Antwon Bernard Gray Jr. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 977-1111 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
