TRENTON - A man city police arrested on drug and gun possession charges earlier this week has been linked to a June shooting on Perry Street, police said Friday.
Van Wells, 28, was charged with weapons and drug possession and distribution Wednesday following a Trenton Police raid on a house in the 1400 block of Princeton Avenue.
On Thursday evening, Detective Edward Cunningham, of the Shooting Response Team, charged Wells with aggravated assault and weapon possession in connection with a June 23 shooting on Perry Street.
In that incident, police were dispatched to the area of North Montgomery and Perry streets after the city's ShotSpotter activation alerted police about shots fired, police said.
They found a 23-year-old man who had suffered a superficial graze wound to his left shin. While officers were conducting the preliminary investigation, the victim inexplicably bolted, police said.
During the drug raid Wednesday, officers found handgun and 60 packages of heroin, $1,328 in cash and drug packing material, police said.
Wells' was targeted by the police department's violent crimes unit, the warrant squad and the New Jersey State Police detailed to Trenton.NJ.com
