A 19-year-old man was critically wounded when gunfire erupted in the Bronx early Sunday, police sources said.
Police found Brandon Rivera after the ShotSpotter gunfire-detection system was activated at East 183 Street and Crotona Avenue in Belmont at about 1:30 a.m., the sources said.
Rivera was struck once in the chest and once in the arm and taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.
Police found a firearm, shell casings, and one live round at the scene.
The ShotSpotter program uses sensitive sound sensors to detect gunfire, and alert authorities.
Authorities have boasted that one of the program’s benefits was its ability to save lives
