Two people are facing charges after authorities found a 6-week-old infant and five dogs inside a Homewood home that was in deplorable condition.
According to the criminal complaint obtained by Channel 11 News, the home had holes in the walls and floors, no running water, a cockroach infestation and live ammo scattered throughout the house.
Authorities said they also found a 6-week-old boy, who was left in a car seat, and five dogs, one of which was missing an eye and had an infection, inside the home Tuesday morning.
“We all thought this was an abandoned home. Unbelievable is all I can say,” neighbor Christina Yancy said.
Police were first called to the home when ShotSpotter detected gunshots nearby, resulting in the arrest of Praiser Gainer. Authorities also arrested Shamara King, who police say was babysitting the young boy and lied to officers about who she was.
Authorities said the child’s mother picked up the boy from the home. Calls for comment from her were not immediately returned.
Gainer and King face several charges, including child endangerment and animal cruelty.
