IT Support Specialist and Technician

As an IT support specialist and technician at ShotSpotter you will augment our growing team of dedicated and motivated IT professionals.

Your responsibilities will fall into two broad areas:

  • Providing IT support and troubleshooting assistance to our employees.
  • Onboarding and offboarding employees including the provisioning and deprovisioning of equipment including laptops, phones, and tablets.

In addition to the primary functions above you will also be expected to participate in broader IT initiatives within the department and over time be involved in more active administration of primary systems.

  • Acts as primary contact for end-user issues and provides IT assistance and troubleshooting for our employees.
  • Onboard new employees including deploying standard machine builds and software to end user equipment. User onboarding and configuration. Detailed logging of all allocated assets.
  • Offboarding departing employees, including ensuring return of allocated assets, forensic backup of returned equipment, logging of assets and secure wipe and re-install of assets.
  • Mentor and train end users on best use of their equipment and applications.
  • Administer, install and troubleshoot a variety of operating systems.
  • Participate in maintenance and upgrades of end user systems, operating systems and software.
  • Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of other IT equipment such as printers, scanners, video conference and AV systems.
  • Troubleshoot end-user applications including MS Office 365, Zoom, Slack, Jira, and others.
  • Troubleshoot and participate in upgrades and maintenance of hardware such as RAM upgrades and storage swaps etc.
  • Assist with systems maintenance tasks, such as system back-up, recovery and file maintenance.
  • Participate in Information Security matters including incident response.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation on assets, users, software and procedures to meet our ongoing audit requirements.
  • Be involved in IT Vendor relations including opening service tickets are required.


  • Some experience with both Mac and Windows required (experience of Linux a plus).
  • 2+ years operational experience preferred.
  • Hands on experience of installing IT hardware and software.
  • Hands on experience with Office 365 suite including Outlook.
  • Basic knowledge of networking.
  • Service-Oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills a must.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail essential.
  • Good time management.
  • Willingness and ability to learn.
  • Be within commuting distance of our Freemont, CA office.


  • Programming, automation or scripting skills.
  • Advanced network knowledge including configuration networks using OSPF, BGP, VLANS including 802.11ad and MACsec.
  • Knowledge of x86 hardware including components such as memory, network cards and peripherals.
  • Technology Certification (A+, Network+, Security+)
