Business Analyst

ShotSpotter Investigate™ is a case management software solution designed for the public safety market. ShotSpotter is seeking to hire an experienced Business Analyst to work with our clients and software engineering team.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

The Business Analyst is responsible for gathering, analyzing, documenting, and visualizing the business needs for software projects and enhancements, translating the business needs and processes to requirements and specifications, and validating that the as built solution meets the requirements.

  • Participate in project planning and assist in developing project vision and business analysis plans
  • Conduct JAD sessions to elicit business requirements and ensure that the requirements for software solutions meet the needs of the business
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the customer’s business processes and operations
  • Create wireframes, flow charts, matrixes, and specifications to clearly define the processes and requirements
  • Interpret requirements into feasible options, and communicate these back to the stakeholders to ensure that the requirements to be built comply with the business needs, desired outcomes, and project scope
  • Develop and utilize standard templates to prepare business and functional requirements documents accurately and concisely
  • Translate customer use cases into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers and the project team
  • Conduct review sessions to ensure that the business and functional requirements are correctly interpreted by the project team.
  • Attend daily scrum and other agile meetings and collaborate with technical teams to ensure that software solutions are developed according to functional specifications and meet the overall requirements
  • Carefully track any scope changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements, document them and bring to the attention of the senior managers
  • Create QA test scripts and test plans to ensure the newly implemented features meet the requirements, and function properly.
  • Create and maintain requirements traceability matrix documents to trace functional requirements to test cases.
  • Provide scripts and assist customers during user acceptance testing and obtain required approvals

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, Math, Statistics or related discipline
  • 7+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Quality Assurance, Systems Engineering, or related fields
  • Proven ability to use hard data to back up assumptions and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to balance competing priorities, workloads, and tight timelines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Strong understanding of software requirements, software development lifecycle (SDLC) and project management principles
  • Proven track record in requirements gathering, creation of functional requirements, process flow analysis and design, conducting functional and regression testing
  • Familiarity with software development tools, such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong documentation skills with the ability to create mockups and wireframes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Understanding of law enforcement operations is a plus
  • Great attention to detail, and critical thinking skills
  • Must be willing to meet with clients onsite in NYC Region a few days a week
  • Travel up to 75%
