Release 2012.3.2 delivers new message and communication upgrades to the ShotSpotter Flex software which permit SST to notify customers of impending service or software upgrades, distribute messages regarding new features, and otherwise to stay in touch with all users on a one-by-one basis. This release also addresses a number of minor issues found in earlier versions of Release 2012.3.
Both the ShotSpotter Flex Alerts Console and the Incident & Reports Portal software now display system-wide, customer-specific, or even user-specific notifications to users. Messages are first displayed when a user logs in and then checked periodically thereafter. They will appear at the top of your application window, where you can quickly read them and then dismiss them. After today’s upgrade, for example, you will receive the following new message:

In the future, SST will use the messages functionality to notify you about upcoming new releases, system configuration changes, and planned maintenance schedules. (In some cases, messages will contain Internet links for additional information. Internet access using a web browser will be necessary to follow those links for additional information, but not to use the ShotSpotter Flex software itself.)

Your ShotSpotter consoles will notify you automatically when the upgrade is available:

When this message is displayed, you just need to close the window and relaunch the software again. The upgrade process is automatic and otherwise transparent. The new version number will be displayed in the lower right-hand corner of the console. After today’s Zero Downtime upgrade, the version number will read 2012.3.2.29008.
