Enhancing Security with ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System (GLS) Solutions
In security, some of the worst threats involve the use of explosives and firearms. Delayed or incorrect responses to these threats can risk lives and expose organizations to significant liability. In such instances obtaining clear and accurate information quickly is critical to mounting an effective security, law enforcement or emergency response. ShotSpotter GLS solutions can help.

With acoustic surveillance integrated into a well-balanced security program, security organizations can now know quickly and precisely when, where, and how a terrorist attack or crime using firearms or explosives is occurring. This holistic capability is the result of integrating ShotSpotter GLS acoustic surveillance technology as part of a well-balanced security system to give organizations the ability to take effective actions at the first indications of an attack or violent incident.
Such a system can convey incident locations to existing video surveillance systems to automatically direct cameras to focus on the scene of the attack for further human assessment. Finally, the balanced security system can convey the incident locations and essential data to police, security and other first responder agencies to hasten and improve their response, support, containment, and evacuation procedures.

Completing your Security Systems with Wide-Area Acoustic Surveillance
Video surveillance has long been a mainstay for security and antiterrorism. However, video surveillance alone does not provide the ability to automatically detect and assess attacks using guns and explosives. The eyes of a video surveillance system are not designed to listen for the first indications of terrorist or criminal attack. They need the ears of an acoustic surveillance system – or a human – to tell them where to look at a specific time. Even human monitoring on a 24/7 basis can’t guarantee that these audible indications of attack will be caught or viewed. Additionally, acoustic sensors can hear activity that is blocked from the view of video cameras, or is otherwise not visible due to poor lighting, inclement weather, or obstructions to the video cameras line of sight. Acoustic surveillance does not suffer from these limitations.
Adding audio to your video surveillance systems closes these gaps, more closely replicating the capabilities of a human security officer who is conveniently in the right place at the right time.
Detecting and locating gunfire and explosions remotely with acoustic surveillance is a reliable and consistent method to make the most of your video system and other surveillance capabilities.
As the pioneer in wide-area acoustic surveillance since 1995, ShotSpotter has refined the ability to detect, locate, and convey gunfire and explosion information to dispatch consoles, video surveillance systems, commonoperating picture fusion systems, and other complementary law enforcement and security systems. The system also has the potential to be trained to listen for other sounds of interest. (For more information on modified acoustic surveillance capabilities contact a ShotSpotter representative.)
Solutions for Security Applications
ShotSpotter GLS Solutions come in multiple configurations to meet most security needs.
ShotSpotter GLS-Stationary Array (ShotSpotter GLS-SA) gives users the ability to permanently monitor a predetermined area for gunshots and explosions. Sensors are permanently attached to stationary objects allowing customers to monitor and enhance security and safety in known problem areas. Alerts are sent to one or more consoles located in dispatch centers, command and control centers, supervisor stations, and patrol cars.
The ShotSpotter GLS-Special Operations (ShotSpotter GLS-SO) gives users the ability to temporarily monitor targeted areas to proactively enhance security against potential threats and allow quick reaction to crimes. The system is designed to be set-up in as short as several hours to provide coverage to small areas in a short-term basis. When protection is no longer needed, the system is quickly taken-down, packed-up, stored, and ready for its next use.
