ShotSpotter Weapons Location System (WLS)
The ShotSpotter Weapons Locating System provides battlefield wide-area acoustic surveillance for area protection, actionable
intelligence, and real-time situational awareness.
The ShotSpotter WLS uses patented acoustic sensing technologies to accurately geolocate weapons fire events over wide areas in both complex and open terrain. System software aggregates sensor data to locate the threat and convey that information in real-time to command and control centers at tactical and operational levels.
Benefits
ShotSpotter WLS uses a distributed acoustic sensor array which allows a small number of sensors to provide acoustic surveillance over a large area, and significantly, the sensors do NOT need to be in the line of fire to accurately geolocate a variety of weapons fire. (ShotSpotter WLS sensors are designed to detect and locate even when hearing only a muzzle-blast or when hearing the combination of a muzzle-blast and a projectile shockwave “snap.”)
The system offers value-added features such as organic Blue Force Tracking (BFT), and has the capability to record all audible events and sensor positions for intelligence exploitation.
Machine-to-Machine Cueing of Surveillance and Weapon Platforms
Utilizing a variety of data interoperability schemas in a networked environment, the ShotSpotter WLS is capable of sharing data with small UAV platforms, enabling rapid machine-to-machine cueing of the surveillance payload to the point of origin of the weapon event. Real-time data from the ShotSpotter WLS can auto-slew automated weapon mounts and other sensor platforms to the point of origin of gunfire.
