  • Release Date: March 06, 2012

  • Upgrade Window: January 01, 1970

Release Description

Release 2012.2.1 of the cloud-based ShotSpotter FlexSM gunfire alert and analysis solution introduces a new Alert Console design optimized for mobile or patrol vehicle users using low resolution touchscreens (XGA, or 800x600 pixels), expanded incident list view with more legible type, and a new incident details tab which provides full incident details without crowding the incident list screen.  It also delivers a number of performance and user interface enhancements to Release 2012.2, which pioneered secure, encrypted live text-based chat functionality which allows customers to communicate in real-time with trained, expert SST gunfire incident reviewers about any ShotSpotter incident activation 24x7x365 and, during normal support hours, with SST customer support.  Release 2012.2.1 improves chat functionality by confirming the availability of the servers supporting SST chat, and notifying users if their internal firewall or access rules are blocking their access.

Alert Console

Release 2012.2.1 Mobile Views on small XGA (800x600) screens

Support for 800x600 (XGA) Screens

Although fewer than 2% of Internet users have computer displays with resolution as small as 800x600, such screens are still quite common on the ruggedized computers used by law enforcement Mobile Data Computers or other in-car products. Release 2012.2.1 features a redesigned Mobile view which now fully supports users with such screens, allowing them to run the application without sacrificing incident detail or legibility.

Expanded Incident List View in Alert Consoles

In order to permit users to view more incidents on small screens, the incident list view has been expanded and given its own view tab.  Even users on 800x600 screens can now view for or more incidents at a time.  Users with larger displays can see many more.

New Incident Details Tab in Alert Consoles

A new Incident Details tab now provides all incident details in a single panel, as well as expanded room for incident comments and other text.

Support for Multiple Coverage Areas

As shown in the Incident List figure above, the Alert Console now displays the name of the ShotSpotter Flex coverage area next to each incident.  For users whose deployments are divided into multiple coverage areas (often for separate towns or municipalities within a larger area), this feature helps officers and dispatchers immediately identify which coverage area an incident took place in.  For example, the difference between 123 Main Street in City A and 123 Main Street in City B becomes immediately apparent.

Other Improvements

  • The default map zoom level on all incident alerts has been adjusted (zoomed in) to show building-level detail by default, thus showing users precisely where the gunshot took place relative to surrounding buildings and architecture and providing greater situational awareness for call takers, dispatchers, and responding officers.
  • Flex software now checks for pending updates and automatically displays an notice to users that an update is available. Updates are downloaded and installed over secure connections and do not require either administrative privileges or a system reboot.
