City Light Capital Closes Financing for Security Company

GREENWICH, CT - April 20, 2006 – City Light Capital announced that it led the recent financing of ShotSpotter, Inc., the leading developer of gunshot location systems and technology for law enforcement, homeland security and the military. City Light Capital and Claremont Creek Ventures were lead investors in the total $9.4 million financing round, which also included Lauder Partners, RNR Ventures, Labrador Ventures and the Band of Angels.

Founded by Marc Weill and Josh Cohen in 2004, City Light Capital is a money management and business development firm that focuses on the security, media and energy sectors. The firm has a particular interest in homeland security and alternative energy, Weill said.

“We’re specifically concentrating our venture portfolio on industries and companies that can make a social difference, in terms of a positive impact on lives and the betterment of our country,” he said. “ShotSpotter is an ideal fit for us. Its technology has resulted in arrests and weapons confiscations, and has a proven history of reducing local crime rates nationwide.”

ShotSpotter’s flagship product detects gunfire across large urban areas using a small number of inexpensive and easy-to-deploy sensors. Its customers include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center, and numerous state and local governments.

“We are delighted to be working with City Light Capital, which has carved a strong niche as investors in the areas of homeland security and law enforcement,” said James G. Beldock, president and CEO of ShotSpotter.

ShotSpotter is City Light Capital’s fifth security-related investment that enables law enforcement and the military to better protect and serve through technology. Other City Light security industry investments include Cross Match Technologies, which provides biometric identity applications and solutions; Arxceo, a provider of attack-prevention appliances that help secure computer networks; Rotomotion, which designs, manufactures and operates helicopter robots and aerial robotic systems; and Enforsys Systems, a developer of public safety software for law enforcement agencies.

“We invested in these companies not only because they present good financial opportunities, but also because we believe in technology and appreciate our protectors and defenders,” said Josh Cohen, City Light Capital partner.

City Light typically looks to co-invest with partners that provide complementary strengths, such as particular industry expertise or business development relationships, Cohen said.

“We’re looking to build our portfolio carefully, in a way that leverages our current investments and takes full advantage of our business development relationships,” he said.
