Video Transcript:

THE SCHOOL YEAR MAY BE WINDING DOWN BUT THE UNIVERSITY IS GEARING UP FOR SECURITY ENHANCEMENT. THEY PLAN TO INSTALL A CERTAIN TECHNOLOGY ON CAMPUS THAT WILL ALERT UNIVERSITY POLICE ANY TIMEA GUN IS FIRED NEARBY. JUST TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFER.I THINK SAFETY ON CAMPUSES IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS. I THINK IT IS. THE GUNFIRE IS DETECTED THROUGH SENSORS PLACED ON THE TOPS OF BUILDINGS.SHOTSPOTTER TECHNOLOGY CAN ACTUALLY DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN AGUNSHOT AND FIREWORKS OR AN ENGINE BACKFIRING.U.A. WILL ALLOW OFFICERS TO RESPOND FASTER SHOULD THERE BE SHOTS FIRED. THERE HAVE BE A LOT OF INSTANCES LIKE FALSE REPORTS SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE SO I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR THE POLICE TO KNOW, OH, THEY ARE SHOOTING OFF FIREWORKS.THIS IS A GUN AND WE NEED TO GO AND IT'S A PROBLEM.  U.A. IS NOT THE FIRST IN THE AREA TO USE IT THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENTALREADY USES IT TO HELP SORT THROUGH SHOOTING CALLS THAT TURNOUT TO BE SOMETHING OTHER THAN GUNFIRE.U.A. SAYS THIS IS JUST A PROACTIVE AND PREVENTATIVE MEASURE.  MY BROTHER AND SISTER WILL BOTH BE AT U.A. SO IT KEEPS PEACE OF MIND IN THE BACK OF MY MIND KNOWING THEY WILL BE SAFER AS WELL.
