SHOTSPOTTER ALERT LANDS FELON BACK BEHIND BARS

December 27, 2016
WWAY 3; Wilmington, NC

Wilmington Police say a ShotSpotter alert yesterday afternoon led them to arrest a felon on several charges.

WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley says officers responded to the ShotSpotter alert at 1201 Ann Street shortly after 1 p.m. Rawley says when they got there, they found Marco Damietrius Devane, 34, and took him to WPD headquarters for questioning. Rawley says after a “lengthy investigation” officers got a warrant for Devane’s arrest. No other details were immediately available about what led to the shooting and Devane’s arrest.

Devane is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, violating a domestic violence protective order and discharging a firearm in the city. He is in jail without bond waiting to go to court tomorrow.

According to the NC Department of Public Safety website, Devane has several convictions dating back as far as 2004 for crimes including drug trafficking and larceny, but has never served time in prison. He is currently on probation after being convicted in July of communicating threats in New Hanover County. He also has pending court dates for felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, larceny and injury to real property
