2010 ShotSpotter Best Practices Award

About the award
The ShotSpotter Best Practices Award is an annual designation that recognizes agencies that display exemplary policing while using the ShotSpotter GLS to combat gun crime. Previous awardees have created new and creative uses of ShotSpotter GLS features and data, with positive results. These results can be replicated in other agencies to benefit their respective programs and communities.

Who can apply
All law enforcement agency personnel, sworn and non-sworn. Applying agency must be a customer of ShotSpotter, actively using the ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System.

Criteria
The following five areas will be used to judge nomination submissions:

  • Effectiveness - Evaluation of actions undertaken to conduct and manage problem as defined by the applicant.
  • Ability to replicate - Ability for another law enforcement agency to replicate results.
  • Overall Impact - Significance of the contribution to the community.
  • Level of Innovation - Innovative use of ShotSpotter GLS technology or system data.
  • Use of documented ShotSpotter Best Practices and standards.

Submission deadline
The entry form and supporting documents must be postmarked no later than August 30, 2010 if submitting by mail. Entries can be submitted via e-mail to 2010bestpractices@shotspotter.com by 5 pm PST August 30, 2010. Requests for deadline extensions will not be considered. Entries after the deadline will not be guaranteed for consideration. All nominations are final and become the property of ShotSpotter.

Process
Judges will review all award entries and select three to five applications for final judging. Finalists will be notified of contention. The winning agency will be selected from the finalist pool. Final judging takes place in September. Winners are notified six weeks prior to the International Association Chiefs of Police Conference in the fall.
